Events and Exhibitions 2023

Thun is a beautifully located city. From its lakeside Eiger, Monch and Jungfrau can be viewed. On its hill thrones a medieval castle looking over the old town and the whole surrounding area. Within this castle a two-artist exhibition will take place with haiga works (haiku-painting) by Teruko Yokoi (1924-2020) and calligraphy by Suishû T. Klopfenstein-Arii. Hopefully you will enjoy our "Images of the Heart".

  • Article on Suishû T. Klopfenstein-Arii and Calligraphy 'Symbol of the Heart (in German)' appeared in "frauen forum" journal March 2021.
    202103ArticleFrauenForum  Article (PDF)
On the Works carried in the article :
    "A Human Life"
Human life given to each individual is precious by itself, independent of the person’s position or fame in this world. The size of the work was designed intentionally rather small, trying to express my image of "a human life" with clear and strong lines (cf. Gallery).
    "Devotions"
In this world we often cannot help but pray. After numerous trials and errors in a long span of time, I finally completed this work "Devotions", hoping to express my thankfulness of being here living together with all creatures. (Suishû)

It is about 3500 years since the Chinese characters were invented in China and about 2000 years since they were introduced in Japan.
The use of script and the function of calligraphy were first closely related to culture and society in China and later also in Korea and Japan.
Throughout this long tradition script and calligraphy were always highly valued and further developed.
In the current mechanized, hectic and pragmatic world the importance of calligraphy has even more increased.
For us involved in calligraphy, sitting at the table, rubbing the ink stick quietly and grasping the brush after such preparations is a precious, peaceful act.

Everyone is welcome if he/she is interested in calligraphy and would like to experience these silent and peaceful moments together.
If you are interested, please kindly contact Ms Sylvia Fässler (sylvia.faessler@bluewin.ch).
